About two years ago I achieved a goal that I just never wrote about, but it was actually so fun to complete! #76 Drink only water for a week. I told my friend Stephanie (the one who made me the job egg) about this list and, as the ever supportive friend, she jumped right in to join me in this one. Extra helpful was that Stephanie worked with me, so we had a full 40 hours of solidarity that made it so much easier for both of us. We affectionately called the project WATER WEEK 2011 and did our best to make it seem like a fun challenge rather than a challenging lack.
We alternated days of bringing in accompaniments for our water - we deemed this legal- like oranges (thank you, Pei Wei, for the idea), cucumbers (Steph wasn't so sure about those, but I think we won her over), and strawberries (my mom's favorite water booster). It felt exciting to see what the other person brought and we got to commiserate when we felt like drinking something else.
It was fun to do together and, for me at least, it wasn't much of a stretch. It did point out the times when it would occur to me to drink something else just out of boredom and I enjoyed choosing water instead. I think it also taught me that I like themed weeks. It feels like a way of celebrating something odd. At my office now we sometimes have theme days for what we wear and it always makes me far more excited about getting dressed. Perhaps this is an idea reserved primarily for children, but I'm into it.
I'm also really into doing things with groups of people. It gives you an odd solidarity that I really love. It's like when it rains a lot and you get to pass knowing looks with other similarly clad people under hoods. And you finally get to wear your yellow rain boots that you love. And then everyone can talk about the rain all day together. Stephanie and I certainly spent a good amount of time talking about water during Water Week 2011 and it made it a lot of fun. So mark off #76, thanks for your help, Steph!
**I'm supposed to have a picture of every goal accomplished and this one was so long ago I'm not sure if I have one. But here is a picture I took of my desk last week after I upgraded my phone to iOS 7 and got the new filters that I am nearly obsessed with. I can't get over how important my water bottle looks. I keep showing it to people and they don't seem too impressed, so maybe you won't be either, but I think you're crazy. Feast your eyes.
Right!?
